My Favorite Holiday Appetizer-Hot Pepper Jelly

I tried a new appetizer over the holidays that was so good that none of us could leave it alone. What is this strange concoction? Hot pepper jelly. As strange as this may sound it was the hit of the party!

This year my sister and I decided to keep gift giving simple. Her gifts to me were various foods that she canned using vegetables from her garden. I got a gift bag full of tasty treats including salsa, pickles, zucchini relish and hot pepper jelly.

The way that we served hot pepper jelly was by pouring a jar of it over a brick of cream cheese and surrounding with crackers. The combination of the hot pepper jelly and cream cheese was also very addicting. Even with all the fancy appetizers being served this was the one that nobody could leave alone.

The hot pepper jelly that my sister made was actually more sweet than hot. I don’t have the recipe that she used but once I get it I will post it here. You can also find hot pepper jam in some specialty stores and is sometimes referred to as sweet pepper jam, sweet pepper jelly or even hot pepper jelly. I am pretty sure they are all the same.

It is a little after midnight and I still have some hot pepper jelly left in the refrigerator. I think I had better go have myself a late night snack since I really should get it used up before it spoils ;-).
