Don’t Dismiss Your Barbecue Grill this Winter

While it is still technically fall until Dec 21, these frigid temperatures have me thinking that winter has come early this year.  Still, it wont stop me from cooking on my barbecue grill.  In fact, around here we usually grill year round.  Don’t get me wrong, I love cooking my favorite comfort foods in the oven and use my crock pot a lot during the fall and winter season but nothing beats barbecue chicken or the occasional steak cooked outside on the grill.

BBQ grills have come a long way since the lightweight charcoal grills we used growing up.  Some were even on the flimsy side, like the one we had that blew over, chicken and all on one very windy day (I remember my mother scrambling to pick up all the chicken from the ground and taking it back in to wash it off and finish cooking in the oven). Nowadays people don’t just grill; many even set up outdoor kitchens complete with a bar, outdoor refrigerator and built in grill.  One can dream of someday having a backyard that is an extension of the rest of the house.  Just imagine how much fun it would be to throw backyard barbecues and other outdoor parties.

Those who live in warmer climates have the option of not only grilling year round but they can also entertain in their outdoor kitchens most months of the year.  However, many of us in colder climates who don’t have the luxury of eating outside year round can still be found outside in our parkas grilling on a snowy day.

If you live in a colder climate and  winter is slowly starting to set in don’t dismiss your barbecue grill; especially if you are missing some of your favorite summertime recipes.  And lets face it, steak, chicken and pork cooked on the barbecue grill has a unique taste that can’t be duplicated in a frying pan.
