Outdoor Storage Sheds are a Must for the Modern Homesteader
One thing that I have probably failed to mention is that my husband is one of those modern-day homesteaders (I am not there yet but hope to be one day). He has been perfectly content with cutting wood every summer and fall so that we can heat save on heating costs. Yes I was a bit nervous when he came up with the idea of replacing our worn out furnace with a wood stove but it has worked out well and he never complains about chopping and hauling wood. Of course other aspects of the modern homesteader is growing your own food and plenty of do it yourself projects. For this reason, outdoor storage sheds are a must.
You may be wondering why your classic do-it-your-selfer wouldn’t just build his own storage shed and I asked him that, and his reason was quite simple-some storage sheds, such as metal sheds are fast and easy to assemble, which is a must if you need storage in a hurry, such as storing animal feed and keeping it dry. And then of course, storage sheds make perfect garden sheds.
Other affordable options for outdoor sheds are vinyl sheds. Not only is a vinyl shed economical but it can be assembled with a minimum of tools. Vinyl sheds also work great doing double duty as a garden shed, are pretty much maintenance free, stand up well to bad weather and are easy to keep clean. Compare this to a wooden shed which has to be painted every few years, with shingled roofs that need to be replaced and of course you have to worry about wood rot if draining around the shed is poor.
The goal of the modern homesteader is to be more self reliant and for the most part that means doing things yourself. However, from an economical and practical stand point it is sometimes a good idea to have the work done for you; like buying instead of building an outdoor shed.
