I have to admit I am not fond of beans and haven’t tried this but I wanted to include it here since it appears to be a very budget friendly meal that could be put together in no time. The measurements look a bit odd to me, in fact, it looks as though it would be way too thick to be a soup. It also doesn’t specify whether to drain the beans or the vegetables. I would probably cook the spaghetti before hand since it seems like it would be too thick for the spaghetti to cook in the soup. If you don’t have spaghetti on hand any pasta would do. I would probably substitute rotini pasta or elbow macaroni. The recipe calls for the standard size cans of soup, vegetables and beans. Read more »
Nobody would argue that a large portion of monthly expenses is the grocery budget. You may think that it is the meat, fresh produce and other necessities for three meals a day is what is eating up your grocery budget but there is another culprit-snack foods. Read more »
It has been two weeks since I have updated this blog. Since then I have been doing pretty well spending wise; managing to keep my groceries down to under $90 a week. Last week I did some menu planning in hopes of saving money on groceries this week. Although I did go $10 over my budget I am happy with the way things went considering the fact that I did end up buying extra food for company twice and we didn’t resort to eating out at all. Yesterday I posted my plans to bring my grocery bill down to $75 a week and today was day one of using up what I have on hand. In fact, all week I have spent very little on groceries with the exception of a gallon of skim milk today. This weekend I will spend some time going through my pantry, freezer and fridge and see just how many dinners I can come up with. I will also spend a good amount of time clipping coupons and going through the sales fliers. I probably have enough meat in the freezer for about a week’s worth of meals so I can hopefully get by spending even less than $75. I also need to figure out the budget before planning a big trip to Sam’s club. Read more »
I started this blog in the hopes of sharing great tips on how to save money as well as share frugal recipes that can be made with simple ingredients that you probably have on hand. However, just like everyone else, the economy has affected my family and we need to tighten our wallets even more. That is why it is very important to learn how to save money each and every month on groceries. After all, since our mortgage, car payment and a few other bills are pretty much set each month how much I decide to allot for groceries and eating out means the difference between between not being able to make our monthly payments or making our monthly payments and putting money in savings each and every month. In fact, I plan to cut our grocery bill down to less than $300 per month for a family of 3. In addition to this we will limit eating out to twice per month. With so much going on we have fallen into the habit of getting take out at least twice a week which of course, makes me feel like somewhat of a hypocrite considering my blog is called Eating On a Budget!
