The Charm of Weathervanes For the Home and Garden
Now that January is almost here I will be counting down the days until Spring and will soon begin prepartions for our upcoming garden. My husband and I will most likely start the seeds ourselves come Feb. There is just something about doing it all from scratch that really gives the feeling of accomplishment. This year we hope to expand our garden and enjoy it not just for the food we grow but the beauty of it. One way to add both beauty and functionality to our garden is with a garden weathervane.
When most people think of weathervanes what usually comes to mind are rooftop weathervanes which add a lot of rustic charm to a home. However, garden weathervanes are also nice choices for both beauty and functionality. For the garden weathervane to function properly you would want to attach it to a tall pole (about 6 feet tall) in a wide open space.
Weathervanes come in all shapes and sizes and can come in a different materials such as copper and aluminum. I like the look of a copper weathervane since copper takes on a unique look as it ages.
When choosing a weathervane you want to take into consideration the overall style of your home and surroundings. For example, a rural farmhouse in the country would look great with a weathervane that depicts a farm animal or a barn.
Rooftop weathervanes are also a nice addition to a home to suit many different tastes and home styles. From mythical or whimsical weathervanes to more traditional roosters, there are weathervanes for both the home and garden that will definitely add value and style to any home or garden. If you have a large home with plenty of outdoor space you may even choose both a garden weathervane and rooftop weathervane. However, you will want to choose two weathervanes that would compliment each other.
Of course, it goes without saying that weathervanes would make a great gift. However, when choosing such a gift you want to make sure you choose with the homeowners taste in mind instead of your own.
